What We Do
Shout! is a health advice and support service providing an alternative space for gay and bisexual men and men who have sex with men in, living or socialising in Sheffield. Funded by NHS Sheffield with a remit of sexual health promotion and HIV prevention, Shout! has been supporting the local community since 1996. The Thursday drop in service offers a safe, non-judgemental and non-prejudiced environment where people can be themselves. Staff are available each session to offer advice on all aspects of sexual health and provide information on local services.
Social Network
The Thursday sessions provide an opportunity for men to meet and build social networks with other gay and bisexual men without the pressures and pitfalls of the pub and club scene. Sessions are relaxed and informal, with free refreshments on offer.
One-to-One Support
Trained sexual helath workers are available every Thursday to offer confidential one-to-one support. The sessions last up to an hour and can be pre-booked or requested on the night. One-to-one sessions can also be arranged at other times by request.
Activities
Each week Shout! runs a facilitated activity around issues that affect gay and bisexual men's health. Our holistic approach to sexual health is reflected in the wide scope of themes and topics, ranging from self-esteem, dealing with homophobia and information about sexually transmitted infections, to lifestyle, crafts and creative writing. These activities provide an opportunity for visitors to explore issues affecting their lives. The activity starts at 7.30pm with a midway refreshment break.
Information
We can provide information on all aspects of sexual health as well as local health services and national contact numbers. Newsletters, magazines and information leaflets are also available.
Free Condoms and Lube
At Shout! there are always condoms and lube available free of charge, supporting gay and bisexual men to stay safe. Also look out for our very own packs of condoms and lube in gay venues across the city.
Courses
In addition to the sessions held each week, Shout! facilitates structured training programmes. These courses explore specific topics in greater detail. In early 2009 we arranged a 6 week self defence course and in October 2010 we launched Aim High, a 5 week course for building and improving confidence. Places on our courses are free of charge.
Free WiFi and Internet Access
Free internet access is available for anyone wanting to research information, check out places to go, or check e-mails in a safe, secure environment. The Circle also offers free WiFi throughout the building. Ask a member of staff for login details.
Monthly Newsletter
